ST BENEDICT & ST THERESE: THE LITTLE RULE & THE LITTLE WAY

St. Benedict and St. Therese stand as two of the monumental figures in the history of the Western Church. Their impact on Christian thought cannot be underestimated, yet never before have they been viewed as spiritual father and daughter. They were the “apostles of the ordinary” - two great saints, centuries apart, united in their appreciation of the little things. St. Benedict called his rule “a little Rule for beginners.” St. Therese called her way of spirituality “the little way.” By bringing the two of them together, we can see how to turn our ordinary day-to-day living into an extraordinary spiritual life. Benedict and Therese show us that God is in the little things. From his "little rule" to her "little way," these two great saints teach us to find ourselves in the ordinary. By Fr. Dwight Longenecker
